48 Hours in Thessaloniki: A Food-Lover's Itinerary
Two days of Byzantine churches, waterfront walks, market snacks and the best bougatsa in Greece.

Thessaloniki is the perfect city break: compact, affordable and full of good food.
Day 1
Start with bougatsa and coffee, then walk the waterfront to the White Tower and climb to the top for views across the bay. Head inland to the Rotunda and the Arch of Galerius, then graze your way through the Modiano and Kapani markets. In the evening, eat meze in Ladadika.
Day 2
Climb to Ano Poli, the old upper town, for the walls, the Heptapyrgio fortress and sunset views. Visit the church of Agios Dimitrios and the Museum of Byzantine Culture. Finish with a stroll along Nea Paralia to the Umbrellas sculpture.
Extend your trip
Add a day at the beach in Halkidiki, about an hour away, or visit the royal tombs at Vergina.
