Halkidiki is northern Greece's summer playground: three finger-shaped peninsulas with sandy beaches, pine forests and some of the clearest water in the Aegean.
Highlights
- Kassandra's lively resorts and long beaches
- Sithonia's quieter coves such as Kavourotrypes
- Boat cruise along the coast of Mount Athos
- Ouranoupoli and its Byzantine tower
- Seafood tavernas in Nikiti and Neos Marmaras
Kassandra, the western peninsula, is the most developed, with busy resorts and nightlife. Sithonia, in the middle, is greener and wilder with hidden coves. Mount Athos, the eastern peninsula, is a self-governing monastic community; entry is limited to men with a permit, but anyone can view the monasteries from a boat cruise out of Ouranoupoli.
☀️ Best time to visit
June–September. July and August are busy with visitors from Thessaloniki and the Balkans.
🧭 Getting there & around
Thessaloniki airport is about 1–2 hours by car depending on the peninsula. KTEL buses run from Thessaloniki; a car is best for beach-hopping.
