Arachova is about 2.5 hours from Athens, which makes it busy on winter weekends and over Christmas and New Year. The main street is lined with cafés, tavernas and shops selling woven rugs and local cheese.
From December, conditions permitting, the Parnassos ski centre opens. Combine a snowy break with a visit to the ancient site of Delphi just down the road.
